I hope you'll join MoveOn members in wishing Social Security a happy and healthy 78th birthday--and that you'll fight with us expand the program, not cut it. Here's to another 78 years!
When Social Security was born, on August 14, 1935, more than half of the country's elderly lived below the federal poverty line. Today that number is less than 10% -- a testament to programs like Social Security. We need to keep fighting to bring that number down by strengthening and expanding Social Security.
